Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge, perched on the rim of the crater at 7,500 feet above sea level, providing vertiginous views plunging down into the crater floor.

Ngorongoro Crater is often referred to as the Eighth Wonder of the World…

A large caldera 600 meters deep, that hosts the most unique ecosystem on Earth, with 20,000 large grazing mammals and the largest concentration of predators on Earth playing a key role in the maintenance of the ecological balance.

Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge, is strategically perched on the rim of this ‘Garden of Eden’, affording unbelievable views plunging down over the crater floor, 7,500 feet above sea level.

The Lodge is elegantly built mainly from natural stone and local wood, harmoniously merging with its natural surroundings, and it is provided with panoramic windows that encompass superb views of the Crater’s great bowl.

From its privileged position, all the Lodge’s 80 rooms afford breathtaking uninterrupted views, and the open–air terrace of the Rhino Lounge Bar offers superb panoramic views of the whole Crater.

Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge, invites you to an unforgettable safari experience from its privileged location, both for game viewing and scenery.

Ngorongoro is: 185 km from Arusha, 60 km from Lake Manyara Wildlife Lodge, 145 km from Seronera Wildlife Lodge and 225 km from Lobo Wildlife Lodge Seronera Wildlife Lodge, strategically located in the heart of the Serengeti, one of the most important spots of Serengeti National Park, where you can witness an actual kill in the flesh, and where all game drives and balloon safaris take place.

The vast and spectacular Serengeti is the epitome of most people’s vision of wild Africa; its endless rolling plains perfectly define the meaning of its name in the Maasai language – Seregenget or Siringitu means the place where the land moves on forever.

Seronera is one of the most important spots of Serengeti National Park, where you can witness an actual kill in the flesh.

This area is in the heart of the Serengeti, where all game drives, balloon safaris, and catching planes take place. Seronera Wildlife Lodge is located on the migratory route, and it provides front-seat viewing of this extraordinary natural phenomenon.

Seronera Wildlife Lodge is artfully constructed around a rocky outcrop from glass and wood elements, perfectly blending into its surrounding; next to the lodge, several waterholes attract, day and night, the most amazing animals, providing a unique opportunity for a close encounter with the Big Five.

Seronera Lodge is only 5 minutes from the departing point of the hot air balloon safaris, which offer a thrilling bird’s-eye wildlife perspective of the vast plains of The Serengeti.

From its privileged location, the Seronera’s 75 rooms afford stunning views of over a million wildebeest as they migrate from Kenya to Lake Victoria to escape the drought.

Lobo Wildlife Lodge, the most romantic safari lodge in East Africa, remotely located in the north of Serengeti National Park, on the migration route, hidden within giant volcanic rocks and providing an unrivaled bird’s-eye perspective of the migration.

Tanzania Safaris Budget Camping or Lodge Safari

Tanzania Safaris Budget Camping or Lodge Safari

Romantic, Remote, Wild

That is Lobo Wildlife Lodge, located in the North of Serengeti National Park, the most spectacular scenario of wildlife in its pure essence.

Lobo Wildlife Lodge, is a dream of romanticism in its remote location, strategically built into an enormous volcanic rocky outcrop.

It is the largest lodge on the migration route where it’s elevated position means that the migration can be viewed from the comfort of a sun lounger. You can watch and witness the migration even from the pool.

Artistically made of stone and local timber around clusters of large boulders, harmoniously merging with its surroundings, the Lodge affords from its raised location stunning views of the most amazing natural spectacle to be seen on Earth.

It is ideally set on the migratory route of over one million wildebeest in their desperate struggle for survival. It is the first lodge on the way from Kenya to Tanzania, only 28 km from the Maasai Mara.

Lobo Wildlife Lodge, invites you to an unforgettable safari experience from its privileged location, unrivaled by any other both for game viewing and scenery.

A waterhole below the Lodge attracts a variety of wildlife during the day and is lit each evening, revealing an interesting array of nocturnal animals, providing a close encounter with the very authentic wildlife.

All the Lodge’s 75 elegant guestrooms afford superb views of this unbelievable natural phenomenon, and the sumptuous swimming pool is situated on the very edge of the rock, offering uninterrupted views of the horizon.

The Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area is located between the Serengeti and Lake Manyara. It is home to the famous Ngorongoro Crater which is the largest unbroken caldera in the world.

The Crater is a spectacular setting in which to experience your African safari. Some scientists maintain that before it erupted, Ngorongoro Crater- the largest intact caldera in the world would have been higher than Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest point in Africa.

Covering a mere 260 square kilometers (100 square miles), the 600 meter (1969 foot)-deep Crater is home to a permanent population of more than 30 000 animals.

It is one of the few places in Africa where you stand a very good chance of seeing the Big Five (lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino and elephant) in the course of a game- drive.

The local Maasai have permission to graze their cattle on the Crater floor, and it is not unusual to see Maasai cattle and buffalo grazing together with lion mere meters away.

There are around 1000 lions in the Crater, approximately 20 black rhino, and the spectacular Lerai Forest is one of the best places in Africa to spot leopard.

Tanzania Safari New Wildlife Permit Charges from 1st August 2014

Dear Tanzania Safari Partner.

Greetings from Tanzania Safaris Zanzibar Travel, affiliated to KianGo Adventure Safaris Tanzania.

We regret to inform you that the Tanzanian Ministry of Natural Resources / Wildlife Department has now officially introduced three new permits when doing a Tanzania Safari to be obtained by any person or company planning to enter in any Tanzania Safari game reserve, game controlled area, wildlife management area or open area in Tanzania.

From now on every visitor needs to obtain a permit before entering the relevant areas on a Tanzania Safari.

Check ups will be conducted on all these areas through the current gates and other gates/barriers to be installed soon.

There’s three different permits for a Tanzania Safari that need to be obtained, of which two have to be obtained by the Tanzania Safari ground handler, and one by the Tanzania Safari accommodation supplier:

01) Tanzania Safari WMA Wildlife fee / entry permit – $10 per person per day

To be arranged by the ground handler, payable directly to the Cites office, or using the online system. A permit must be obtained before entry to the area / lodge.

02) Tanzania Safari Vehicle Fee – T.shs 5000 for residents or US$5 for non-residents per vehicle per day.

To be arranged by the ground handler, payable directly to the Cites office, or using the online system.

A permit must be obtained before entry to the area / lodge.

03) Tanzania Safari Bed night Levy: $15 per person per night.

This can be arranged by the Lodge or any registered Tour Operator.

As a long term Tanzania Safari Tour Operator we are forced to increase the rates for these camps/lodges with $15 per person, starting from the date of 01st, August 2014 onward.

All the customers who will pay us before that date will not be involved.

This amount will from now on be automatically added to our invoices.

For all existing bookings with an arrival date after 1.08.2014 we will send a separate invoice to cover for the new WMA bed night levy.

We apologize very much for the sudden introduction of these extra costs, and we realize this might cause you a lot of inconvenience for you as our esteemed customer/Agent.

You are free to comment to any Tanzanian, Kenyan, Ugandan, and other foreign newspapers or TV stations i.e;

Washington Post, Daily Nation, Daily News, New York Times, New York Post, US Today, The Guardian, Independent, Daily mail, Daily Express, Daily Mirror, Daily Star, East African business week, 256 news.com, TV Citizen, East African TV, KBC, TBC, ITV, BBC, CNN,

NOTE: If you have any other questions regarding this issue, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

We are by 100% affected by these laws and I think Tourism business in Tanzania comes to an end.

This is due to other safaris countries as our competition already have cheaper fees and Tanzania Safari rates are simply on a constant raise.

Best Tanzania Safari Regards,

Varied bird species can be seen here including eagles, ducks, geese, egrets, vultures, secretary birds, ibis, stork, herons, kites, pelicans, cranes and guinea fowl.

Day 05: Ngorongoro Crater Floor/Arusha (190km – 3 hours)

Birds includes flamingos on the Soda lake, Geese, Storks, Vultures and more…

Ngorongoro Crater- The largest unbroken caldera in the world, Ngorongoro has an area of 260 kilometers and a depth of 610 meters.

The crater provides a protected habitat for thousands of mammals and birds.

The entire day is spent on the crater floor viewing lion, hyena, wildebeest, zebra, black rhinoceros, and many species of small antelopes.

Your lunch will be served in the picnic site in the Crater at Ngoitoktok swamp a Hippo pool. After lunch proceed with fame viewing while ascending the Crater and drive to Arusha for drop off in Arusha Town or Arusha Airport for your flight..

Unless of course we use a helicopter if you are in a rush!!!

Anything less than 4 days and 3 nights for a Serengeti National Park Safari would be to much wear and tear on vehicles and the human body…….

In Tanzania there is a saying in Kiswahili that goes like this…

“Haraka Haraka Haina Baraka”– literally meaning Hurry, Hurry (Rush, Rush) Has No Blessings.

I like this saying and in truth you do not want with your rush to come head to head with any wildlife, not even a snake or a tortoise, imagine coming through a curve at 90km per hour or more and straight infront of you is a herd of elephants crossing the road, baby elephants with protective Mama Jumbo let alone Baba Jumbo who is having a laid back day as usual and with your rush rush you go and ruin their day:0).

Auch it is not a position you want to be in on your Serengeti National Park Safari.

Serengeti National Park Safari Requires min 4 Days

Serengeti National Park Safari Requires min 4 Days

Our Serengeti National Park Safari start and end in Arusha Town.

Did you know that there are some places on Earth that look so surreal that you’d think they were from another planet?

Whilst on a Serengeti National Park Safari you will surely soon realize you have entered such a power point/location as I like to call it, especially if you have time on you Serengeti National Park Safari and take an extra day to go further north and spend a night in the Lobo area where the migration comes steaming down every year.

Take a look at these alien landscapes that can actually be found closer to home than you might think!

Serengeti National Park Safari is certainly Tanzania’s most famous national park classic safari, and it’s also the largest national park, covering 14,763 square kilometers of protected area that borders Kenya’s Maasai Mara Game Park.

Its far-reaching plains of endless grass, tinged with the twisted shadows of acacia trees, have made it the quintessential image of a wild and untarnished Africa.

Its large stone kopjes are home to rich ecosystems, and the sheer magnitude and scale of life that the plains support is staggering.

On a Serengeti National Park Safari large prides of lions laze easily in the long grasses, plentiful families of elephants feed on acacia bark and trump to each other across the plains, and giraffes, gazelles, monkeys, eland, and the whole range of African wildlife is in awe-inspiring numbers.

The annual wildebeest migration through the Serengeti and the Maasai Mara has been declared as one of the Natural Wonders of Africa.

This migration entices visitors from around the world, who flock to the open plains to witness the largest mass movement of land mammals on the planet.

More than a million animals make the seasonal journey to fresh pasture to the north, then the south, after the biannual rains.

The sound of their thundering hooves, raising massive clouds of thick red dust, has become one of the legends of the Serengeti plains.

The entire ecosystem thrives from the annual migration; the lions and birds of prey that gorge themselves on the weak ones as well as the faltering to the gamut of hungry crocodiles that lie in patient waiting at each river crossing for their annual feed.

But it’s not just the wildebeest that use the Serengeti National Park Safari as a migratory pathway.

The adjacent reserves of Maswa and Ikorongo; the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya all allow the animals and birds of the area a free range of movement to follow their seasonal migrations.

Indeed, in the wake of the wildebeest migration, many of the less attention-grabbing features of the Serengeti are often overlooked.

Serengeti National Park Safari, the park has varied zones in which each ecosystem is subtly different. Seronera in the centre of the park is the most popular and most easily visited area.

The Grumeti River in the Western Corridor is the location for the dramatic river crossing during the wildebeest migration.

Maswa Game Reserve to the south offers a remote part of the park rewarding in its game-viewing and privacy, and Lobo near the Kenyan border offers a change to see plentiful game during the dry season.

Aside from traditional vehicle bound safaris, hot-air ballooning over the Serengeti plains has become a safari rite-of-passage for travel enthusiasts.

The flights depart at dawn over the plains and take passengers close over the awakening herds of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle and giraffe.

The extra altitude allows guests to witness the striking stretches of plains punctuated only by kopjes. Up in the sky, you have Africa all to yourself!

7 Natural Wonders of Africa: Serengeti Migration

The Serengeti Migration was officially declared as one of the 7 Natural Wonders of Africa February 11, 2013 in Arusha, Tanzania.

Votes were cast by experts from around the world who noted the key statistical significance.

The Serengeti Migration is a wonder of nature shared between Tanzania and Kenya.

The Serengeti Migration received the most votes along with the most #1 votes making it the most recognized wonder of nature.

Serengeti Migration
The Serengeti migration is the longest and largest over land migration in the world.

The Serengeti plains account for over 18,641 square miles and the migration itself travels 500 miles on the path from Tanzania to the Masai Mara Reserve in Kenya.

Approximately 80% of the Seregeti plains are protected by the Tanzanian and Kenyan governments.

The Serengeti is home to over 70 larger mammals and approximately 500 different types of birds.

Probably the most impressive part of the migration is the herds of wildebeests that blanket the plains. The migration will kill off around 250,000 wildebeests each year.

Best way to see and experience the Serengeti Migration

The most intimate encounter with with wildlife of the Serengeti National Park Safari and the migration will come from the exploration inside a safari jeep.

If you are looking at watching the wildebeest and other animals crossing the river, then you will need to plan on having patience.

“Hakuna Haraka” – No Hurry – on a Serengeti National Park Safari.

The animals may graze for hours and days on end before taking the swim across the river. It may mean just sitting in your Land Rover or other safari vehicle and watching.

If you are fortunate to experience the river crossing, keep your eyes peeled to river banks and wildlife swimming because the crocodiles have been waiting and know they are coming.

Witnessing a crocodile capture a wildebeest and wrestle their prize home is an exhilarating experience.

The same could be said for following the migrating animals.

The lions and other predators know the season and in the hunting mode. Keep your eyes on the stragglers and loners because the predators have their eyes on those too.

Witnessing a lion hunting and killing part of the migration is usually more exciting than the crocodiles making their kill. All of this usually requires lots of patience and watching.

Another serene experience is ballooning over the Serengeti whilst on a Serengeti National Park Safari.

This adventure allows you to recognize the grandeur and size of both the Serengeti itself and the expanse of the migrating wildlife whilst on a Serengeti National Park Safari.

The balloon will usually land somewhere with a breakfast waiting for you out in the Serengeti.

Mikumi is perhaps the most accessible and popular of Tanzania’s national parks. The main feature in here is the open grasslands of the Mikumi flood plain which is bordered on two sides by mountain ranges.

On the southern end one can spot the yellow baboon, impalas, reedbucks and other antelope.

Some distance to the north are the Hippo Pools dominated by hippo, as well as a variety of water birds.

The area around these pools is open plain where you can see all kinds of game from the Lichtenstein’s hartebeest to the somewhat rare wild dog.

Black-bellied bustards, ground hornbills and black turkeys are also found on the plains. There are two other major water holes, Mkata and Chamgore (‘place of the python’). Here there are saddle-bill stork, hammerkop, malachite kingfisher and the deadly writhing python.

The pink Jacaranda is one of the most beautiful trees in this part of the park which is dotted by small glades of Hyphaene palm, shady figs and occasional baobab.

Many trails lead across black cotton soil which transforms to nightmarish bog during the wet season. On the far eastern side of the plains the black-backed jackal is a common predator – this is one of the few mammal species that mates for life.

The park cover an area of 3230 sq km. There is a lot of wildlife in this park including elephant, buffalo, giraffe, lions, antelope and over 400 bird species.

Mikumi National Park is the closest National Park to Dar es Salaam and is nestled between the Uluguru mountains to the northeast, and the Rubeho mountains, Udzungwa mountains and Rift Valley escarpment to the south west.

As part of the Selous ecosystem, it benefits from the highest game density of the entire conservation area.

Not only is Mikumi a great place for ‘getting your eye in’ on game drives, but it is also a fantastically colourful place. The open grasslands stretching out before you change through the spectrum of orange and yellows throughout the day.

There are high concentrations of game, with large herds of Nyasa Blue Wildebeest, (not found in Ruaha National Park), buffalo, impala, zebra and giraffe.

Where there are large herds, there are always plenty of predators waiting for dinner.

Mikumi was gazetted as a National Park in 1964 and is named after the spindle shaped Borassus palm trees.

The Mkata plain supports vast herds of plains game such as wildebeest, impala, zebra and giraffe, hunted by their associated predators; while you are more likely to find Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, greater kudu, roan and sable antelope in the surrounding less fertile hills.

Although game sightings can never be guaranteed, there are lots of sightings of the African ‘wild dog’ hunting the plains in packs.

Artistically made of stone and local timber around clusters of large boulders, harmoniously merging with its surroundings, the Lodge affords from its raised location stunning views of the most amazing natural spectacle to be seen on Earth.

Budget camping safari involves travelling with all your camp equipment, your guide and possibly a cook in your vehicle with you. Once you get to camp everyone helps cook and set up.

This is economical and fun, but does mean that you spend valuable time in the evening organizing your camp and food when you could be out on game drives.

These services typically use the less expensive shared or public campsites, but exclusive camps, or campsites with shower and toilet facilities outside the parks, can also be booked and used. Beds are usually mattresses on the floor of a small tent.

Our Safari can afford to carry 6 people all guaranteed window seats when doing camping safari as we have no permanent campsite in the Park.

5 person in vehicle, maximum 6 persons all guaranteed window seats, a driver/guide and person cook is also in vehicle, Cook stays in the camp during the day when you go out on Safari.

Best times to visit for a Tanzania Safari are:

June to August: This is the tail-end of the long rainy season and the weather is at its best at this time of year — bearable during the day and cool in the evening.

However, this is not necessarily the best time of year for safaris, as water is plentiful in the parks and animals are not forced to congregate in a few locations to rehydrate, as they do in the middle of the dry season right after Christmas.

January to February: This is the best time to visit the Serengeti. It is usually at this time that huge herds of Wildebeest, Zebra and Buffalo migrate to better grazing areas.

At this period you could observe some of the 1.5 million Wildebeest that inhabit the Serengeti undertake their epic journey.

Be advised this is most likely the hottest time of year in Tanzania, when even the locals complain about the heat. You’ve been warned!

The operators we use normally carry all camping equipment’s together with customers.

Facilities in Safari Campsites:
Most campsites have Hot shower and flash toilet facilities i.e; Zion camp in Tarangire, Twiga Campsite in Lake Manyara, and Simba “A” Campsite in Ngorongoro Crater Rim.

Some other campsites have flash toilets and shower facilities (Cold water), such as Seronera Campsite.

Our camp staff (cook) can warm the water for you to have warm water for bathing in case the electricity or solar power is off.

A Tanzania Safari Sample Menu includes:

Breakfast: Coffee, tea, porridge, eggs, sausages, bacon, cereals, bread, butter, jam, honey, fruit juices.

Lunch: salads, smoked sailfish, beef, salami, ham, fruit, salad, pancake, Coffee, tea.

Dinner: soup, fish, meat, chicken, vegetables (green beans, broccoli, spinach, cabbage) pasta or rice, potatoes, fruits and dessert. Also, drinking water

Wildlife Viewing Experience:
This depends much on location of a campsite to be used. The same thing applies to lodges as some of campsites are better at some time of the year and not always all year around. In most cases we chose the ones that are better located and we also factor in a budget of a traveler.

Safety from Animals:
We receive this question a lot! While no one can guarantee another person’s safety, the camping safari are reasonably safe, and hardly you can hear campers being attacked by animals as most animals have been used to see people camping and they are used to it.

However, accidents (a camper being attacked with an animal, or so), do happen sometimes, but those cases are very rare. We have Park Rangers with guns in all Public campsite and private campsites.

Tanzanian Tax Authorities Postpone Proposed VAT Duties of Tanzanian Tourism Sector.

Dear Valued Partner,

In recent days there has been much ambiguity regarding the proposed introduction of Value Added Tax (VAT) for certain Tanzanian tourism products, including park fees, concession fees, transfer charges, game drives and activities.

Tanzania Safaris Zanzibar Travel Holidays.Org is pleased to announce that the proposed VAT implementation has now been postponed by the Tanzanian Government with further consultations now being planned with stakeholders sometime in November.

We will, of course, keep all of our Partners updated as to any and all developments regarding this matter as and when they occur.
